These Violent Delights is the enthralling debut by Chloe Gong. Taking place in the city of Shanghai, 1926, the story is a Romeo and Juliet retelling that follows two rival gangs fighting for power over the city. The life Chloe Gong breathed into Shanghai was one of my favorite parts of the book, and the components of the book (politics, romance, etc.) were balanced perfectly.

With a diverse cast of compelling characters and the threat of a monster lurking in the back of the story (who doesn’t love a good monster?), These Violent Delights is not something you want to miss out on!
