August 2017 Board Minutes

Board of Trustees
August 16, 2017

The regular meeting of the Swanton Public Library Board of Trustees was held on Wednesday, August 16, 2017. In attendance at the meeting were:

Rebecca Rupp, Chairman
Kathy Kneebone, Secretary
Paul Foisy, Trustee,
Michelle Beaulieau, Director

   
The meeting was called to order at 7:10

Motion to accept the July minutes (PF/KK motion and second) motion passed.

Kathy Messier was absent and the warrants for July were reviewed. Motion to accept the warrants (PF/KK motion and second) motion passed.  

Director’s Report:  
1959 patrons visited the library this month with over 1400 items checked out or renewed this month. Story hour had over 125 attending in total this month, and other usual programs continue with good numbers. In addition to regular programs, it was a busy summer with many special programs well attended. Becky’s History Camp was attended by 25 children, Michelle’s Fairy Gardens had 37 in attendance, Rise Vermont Cooking Class was attended by 15, Pinwheel Day had 20 attending, and the Sidewalk Chalk Day had 30 present.
 
Director’s Priorities:
Book sale, Maker Space and building repairs.
Board Issues: Going to direct deposit for staff salaries was discussed and agreed that it will begin for employees who would prefer that method.

The Kings Daughter’s Room disagreement continues and it will go to arbitration with representatives from both parties.

The issues with the pump and the elevator continue and must be addressed immediately for safety. The estimate for the electrical work in the elevator is $964.00. A new sump pump is needed as well.  Motion to approve the estimate and the purchase of a new pump was made (PF/KK motion and second) motion passed.
Bylaws for the Board of Trustees were reviewed and a motion was made to accept them (PF/KK motion and second) motion passed.

Upcoming programs include the Maker Space kick off in the park on September 9 with Darci Benoit and Heather Buczowski, as well as the local author series and the book sale.

October 12th, author visit with Marina Cohen. We will contact the elementary school about getting students here.

Remaining issues were tabled for the next meeting.                                                                                                                                                                                                                          
The meeting was adjourned at 8:40.

The Next scheduled Board meeting is  September 13, 2017.
